Our Carmelite convent was the second to be founded in France by the companions of Saint Teresa of Avila. Today, the Carmel de Pontoise is the oldest Carmel in France still in activity, as the one in Paris – the Carmel de l’Incarnation – was closed during the French Revolution and then destroyed. Our community was founded on 15 January 1605 by the Spanish Mothers, with Blessed Anne de Saint Barthélemy as its first prioress. 2018 – 400th anniversary of the death of Blessed Marie de l’Incarnation, Madame Acarie 1566-1618), Pontoise Carmel.
