Situated in a small valley in the department of Hautes Alpes, by the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Miséricorde at Rosans, is a young abbey deeply rooted in a monastic heritage which is very much alive. It was founded in 1991 by the Benedictine Abbey of Notre Dame de Fidélité (Our Lady of Fidelity), Jouques, which in turn had been founded by the Parisian abbey of Saint Louis du Temple in 1967. Today there are 22 nuns. The nuns of the Abbey of Our Lady of Mercy, Rosans, live under the Rule of St Benedict. The heart of the Rule is ‘the search for God’ and an openness to listen to His voice. Monastic life is structured around several pillars – prayer, with a significant time given to the Divine Office, reading, fraternal life, work and welcoming guests. The abbey was dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy in response to the invitation of Saint John Paul II in his encyclical ‘Dives in Misericordia. Hence the Benedictine life at Rosans is lived in the light of this mercy. “Our prayer is a cry for the mercy of God” Passing on this prayerful cry was to become the particular mission of the nuns, at the heart of their vocation to prayer and praise. They carry out this responsibility in the enclosure, by their life consecrated to prayer and the welcome of all the intentions entrusted to them by guests, pilgrims, families, and even by telephone from strangers who are attracted by the name of the abbey. Retraite biblique ouverte à toutes à partir de 18 ans à l’Abbaye de Rosans, du 2 au 6 juillet 2018, avec Claire Patier, bibliste, “Servante de la Parole” à Marseille. Voir les news.
