The Order of Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration was founded in Paris on the 8th December 1854 by Father Bonaventure Heurlaut, a Franciscan priest (Capuchin) and Mother Marie de Ste Claire Bouillevaux : both of them came from the Aube department. In 1856 the sisters left Paris to establish a foundation in Troyes in the Aube. They settled in the Rue Grand Cloître de St Pierre, today rue Mitanier, in the former house of the Cathedral canons. Perpetual adoration was instituted on the 2nd August 1856. Since then, the community of Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration has never ceased to radiate the love of God. In the course of the following one and a half centuries, the Order has founded 36 monasteries in the world : in France, Poland, Austria, Germany, Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, and in the United States. In 2007, after an interruption of ten years, a new chapter began in the history of our Order. Monastic life flowered once again at the Monastery of Our Lady of the Angels. The renovation, reordering and maintenance of this first monastery of the Order was a subject close to our hearts. Our small international community brings together its human strengths and gifts to start afresh authentic community life in the Monastery which is the “cradle” of the Order. Situated in the heart of Troyes, very close to the Cathedral of St Pierre and St Paul, people can easily attend Mass each day or participate in the Divine Office, the Rosary, and the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. They find an oasis of prayer and tranquillity. We are a contemplative branch of the Franciscan family which seeks God according to the rule of the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration and the tradition of St Francis of Assisi and St Clare.
