This former Carthusian monastery in the middle of the Languedoc vineyards was entrusted by the Carthusian monks to the Bethlehem monastic family in 1977. Steeped in a whole tradition of silence and prayer in the desert, it also offers pilgrims the shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Pity, much loved by the inhabitants of the neighbouring villages and the region for centuries. For the graces they receive and the requests for healing, many come to confide in the Virgin, who ‘listens and hears’. This is where the large workshops for the creation and production of statues and sacred art, which is first and foremost a service to the Church, are based. Several people from the region work with the nuns on this craft. This statuary work, inspired by ancient art and traditional craft techniques, is carried out in prayer and the humble search for an all-Other Beauty, that of the living God.
