The 23rd of May 1963, on the feast of the Ascension, 4 sisters from Provence arrived at the old manor house of Beaufort. Helped by Father Mellet, dominican of the Province of Lyon, the first sisters patiently restored the building marked by years of war and non occupation. Native vocations quickly arrived, the monastery expanded rapidly and has established itself in the Church, in the diocese of Rennes in Brittany. Situated above the lake of Beaufort et in the heart of a magnificent forest, the monastery Notre-Dame of Beaufort offers a site of silence and beauty, et many people come here for rest or to refind spiritual strength. As Dominican nuns we are mindful of proclaiming the Word to today’s world. Our daily liturgy, accompanied by the Kora, an instrument from Senegal, is livley and joyful. We are keen to look after the upkeep of this beautiful site favorable to meditation and silence. We also produce craft work – liturgical vestments, jam – and we have a shop which sells books and religious items. Monastère des dominicaines Notre-Dame de BeaufortHistory of our monastery
