The history of our monastery

The Monastery Saint-Paul de la Croix at Croisy-sur-Eure started its life as an old Norman farm that was converted into the house and home of a couple with no children or other descendants. Their property was bequeathed to the Passionist Nuns in 1976.

Located in the beautiful countryside of the Eure Valley (“Vallée de l’Eure”), on the edge of a typical and picturesque  local village, our community is firmly settled in the diocese of Evreux, as a prayerful and silent presence and a living memory of God’s love through the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus.

The Monastery today

At present, we are a very small community, but we continue to lead our contemplative life with joy: prayer, spirit of recollection, fraternal life, work (handicrafts). Our ongoing formation continues throughout our lives.

Our founder, St Paul of the Cross, wished the male and female Passionist Communities to be schools of prayer as well as places of silence for those who seek spiritual renewal.  We have a small guesthouse: retreatants appreciate the contemplative atmosphere of our monastery where they can be immersed in prayer, solitude and silence.
